Business context
Software teams in manufacturing and AEC keep building 3D web applications for viewing, configuring and reviewing models. Each one starts with the same groundwork. VectraXD™ serves these teams, our clients and our own engineers, by giving them that groundwork ready-made.
The challenge
Every new 3D application needs the same basics: loaders, views, navigation and interaction. Rebuilding them each time adds cost and pushes back the features that make the application different. Getting them right across file formats, camera modes and HTML content on 3D objects takes deep three.js experience.
Our solution
We extended three.js and React into a library of React components for 3D interaction. It is the starting point for new 3D applications and part of our VectraXD™ platform.
- Loading of multiple 3D file formats
- 3D compass and fit-to-window
- Top, front, side, back and isometric views
- Interactive DOM elements rendered on 3D objects, such as an embedded video
- Configurable immersive experience and first-person camera mode
- 3D model collection folders
Business impact
Savings in the cost of developing new applications.
- Clients put their budget into the features specific to their product
- New applications reach a working first version sooner, since navigation, views and loading already exist
- End users get consistent, proven 3D navigation across applications
- Fixes and new format support in the library reach every application built on it
Availability
Our engineers build client projects on VectraXD™ components, so clients pay for their own module, not for rebuilding basics. A JavaScript 3D library built on three.js is part of the VectraXD™ SDK, in private beta with early access on request. Our three.js loaders for IFC, 3D Tiles and Gaussian splats are open source on npm.
