Business context
The client is a construction software company in the USA. Its product shows buildings and their surroundings in 3D, so visual quality shapes how users and their customers judge a design.
The challenge
The client needed the rendering of building materials and landscape in their software to look more realistic. The result also had to run in mobile browsers, where graphics power is limited. Grass, trees and lighting had to look natural without slowing the scene.
Our solution
We built trees, grass, wind effects, sunlight, shadows and physically based material properties in three.js, for materials such as glass, wood and steel.
- Skybox
- Randomized grass, shrubs and trees
- Directional lights for a sun effect, with shadows
- Metalness, roughness, bump and normal maps, and transmission support for materials
Business impact
A realistic look and feel, including in mobile browsers.
- Designs look closer to the finished building, which helps users present them
- The client's product presents better against competing tools
